According to reports, the fire site is located in the center of Tokyo. After receiving the alarm, the local fire department quickly dispatched 31 vehicles, including fire engines, to the scene. After about two hours of fire fighting, the scene is still smoky and the fire has not been extinguished.

Tokyo's Fire Department said the fire was caused by waste materials piled on the lower floor of the building. Previously, a staff member was trapped on the fifth floor of the building, but has been rescued without injury. The fire department also said it had not received reports of other injured and trapped people.

According to the Tokyo police station, the fire site is a high-rise building under construction, which is planned to be completed in January 2021.
