Beijing, November 16 (Xinhua) according to the European Network quoted by the European Union News Agency, the minks in northern Greece have been detected with the new coronavirus, including 2500 minks from a Kozani farm since November 14.

According to reports, the minks infected with the new coronavirus mainly concentrated in kaloneri village of Kozani. The Ministry of agriculture of Greece began to cull minks from the 14th, and the animal bodies were buried in a specially excavated ditch nearby.

Only minks infected with the new coronavirus will be euthanized, the Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement.

Previously, the Ministry of agriculture of Greece also tested mink farms in Denmark after the discovery of cases in which minks transmitted the mutated new coronavirus to humans. The results showed that coronavirus was found in minks from two farms in the north, but the strains detected were different from those found in Denmark.

Greek health authorities have also tested all mink farm workers for the virus, and nine farm breeders have been found to be positive for the new coronavirus.

It is reported that fur production is an important industry in Kozani and castoria in northern Greece. Officials estimate that there may be hundreds of thousands of minks in Greece. (Li Chen)
