Overseas network, November 14 (Xinhua) Indian and Pakistani officials confirmed that on November 13, local time, Indian and Pakistani forces exchanged fire near the line of actual control in Kashmir, at least 14 people were killed and dozens were injured.
According to Agence France Presse, India and Pakistan broke out the largest artillery battle in months near the actual control line of Indian Pakistani Kashmir on the 13th. In a statement, the Indian army said Pakistan had used mortars and other weapons, deliberately targeting civilian areas. An Indian army spokesman said four Indian soldiers and four civilians were killed, including an eight year old boy. Pakistan said that in the strong shelling, five people were killed and 31 were injured. The military confirmed that one of the victims was a soldier.
Nearby residents said that the conflict broke out on the morning of November 13, with both sides accusing each other of launching "unprovoked attacks", and the artillery fire continued into the night.
Recently, Indian and Pakistani forces have exchanged fire on several occasions near the line of actual control in Kashmir and accused each other of violating the cease-fire agreement. Both India and Pakistan claim sovereignty over Kashmir. Since the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947, two wars broke out to fight for Kashmir. In 2003, the two sides reached a cease-fire agreement along the line of actual control in Kashmir.
