According to reports, the associated press statistics show that after California Secretary of state and Democrat Alex Padilla officially confirmed Biden's victory in the state, Biden's electoral votes have reached 279, exceeding the 270 vote threshold required for President-elect.
Edward Foley, a law professor at Ohio State University, said that although Biden had clearly won the presidential election for several weeks, he officially won more than 270 electoral votes, which was his first step toward the White House.
"This is a legal milestone and the first milestone to have such a status," Foley said. "Everything before that is based on what we call predictions."
Earlier, U.S. media estimates that Biden won at least 270 electoral votes needed to enter the White House in the general election. However, the current president trump questioned the election fraud and initiated a lawsuit in several States to ask for recount or suspension of the election result certification process. According to U.S. law, states must resolve election disputes before December 8, 2020. Voters will hold a meeting in the States on December 14 to formally vote for the president and vice president.
